Arequipa King
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of this stunning brown suri male imported from Peru after taking out second place at the 2000 Arequipa National Show judged by Dr Julio Sumar, the world renowned judge and suri expert. At 7 years of age he still carried a 21 micron fleece (US measurements) with great locking and lustre.
"The King" (as he has always been known as), was a gentle male and a pleasure to work with. He seemed to be aware that he was named "The King", as he acted like he was in charge and surveyed the world as though he owned it!
His progeny are impressive and well known in the show ring but his "grandchildren" even more so, as this is where there is an amazing step up in quality. One of his grand daughters last year won Adult Female Champion at the 2009 National Show. The King's progeny are popular and sell well, and there are many alpaca breeders who are very glad to have retained some of his progeny to carry on his genetics and presence.
This stunning male survived the rigours of quarantines and a long flight half way around the world and has lived a very productive life. His contribution to the Australian coloured suri herd has been invaluable and his ancestors will go on to be proof of this. Those of us who have had the privilege to own a share in the King will remember him with great fondness as a perfect gentleman.
RIP The King
